About me

I’ve lived in Oregon my whole life, and there’s a good reason I still call it home. It’s a fantastic place to live. I graduated from Oregon State in 2000, and during my time there I gained experience working in restaurants until 2001. I then moved to Newport, Oregon, to work as a deckhand on various boats off the coast of Oregon and Alaska’s Bering Sea and Bristol Bay. After my time at sea, I went back to school at Portland State to pick up my education in accounting. I stayed busy in between classes doing volunteer work tutoring and preparing taxes with the IRS VITA program, as a member of the accounting and finance honors society Beta Alpha Psi. I graduated in 2008 with a post baccalaureate certificate in accounting.

My career in accounting kicked off in 2009, and I became a licensed CPA in Oregon in 2012. In 2014, I decided to start my own practice and formed Brian A. Van Nice, CPA, LLC. Later, in 2025, I rebranded my firm as BVNCPA and launched this website. I’m dedicated to providing reliable, high-quality accounting services. I like untangling the knots that get tied up in QuickBooks, and helping clients navigate their tax issues. Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor activities, fishing, gardening, cooking, and exploring Portland’s famous restaurant and bar scene.
